2008 Events in Review
OCC Summer BBQ 2008->
The OCC 2008 Summer BBQ was held on August 16th at Glenn and Delena's
beautiful country home near Orillia. We were told to turn at the big bear
sign and no one made a wrong turn, although John O'Toole was the only one who
had some doubts when he saw the sign. It was a beautiful day and Glenn
and Delena had everything so nicely set up -> patio, badminton, horse shoes,
bonfire pit and of course great parking for the Camaros, all in their backyard.
We had a great time, some had a dip in the pool and a few folks were having such
a good time that they didn't leave until the next morning. Many thanks to Glenn
and Delena for hosting a terrific BBQ! (Webmaster's note: I did hear the suggestion
that next year's BBQ should be back at Glenn and Delena's place; and that would
just fine by me.)
2nd Annual Summer Cruise Cruise->
On Sunday July 13th, we gathered at the Murray's place in Beamsville
for a BBQ and chat before heading out to cruise the Niagara Region and what a
nice cruise it was! Randy and Marilyn, once again, put together a wonderful
cruise route taking us by the Welland Canal Lock #3, through Niagara-on-the-Lake
and even under the Canal near the Four Points Sheraton Hotel. Our cruise ended
up on Montrose Road at a nice little cruise at Scotty's. The weather couldn't
have been any better. Many thanks to Randy and Marilyn for their hospitality
and for arranging such a great cruise!
20th Annual Ontario Camaro Nationals->
We had a great 20th Anniversary celebration. The Concept Camaro Convertible
gloriously graced our show and it was magnificent! There was a total of 224
registered Camaros. Although Friday evening was stormy, Mother Nature once
again blessed us with nice weather for the Ontario Nationals. Scott Settlemire
spent the entire day and evening with us on Saturday. Also, Terry "Zeke"
Maxwell (Mr. SLP Canada) was with us for the entire weekend and spoke at our
banquet. The executive with help from some of the execuettes served a grand
dessert of cake and ice cream. For more detail click on our
2008 Show page for more photos and more news about the show.
2nd Annual OCC President's Cruise->
On Saturday, May 31st, after our last general meeting until September,
we left Wilson Niblett Chevrolet for our 2nd Annual President's
Cruise. Although the President couldn't be with us, things turned out nicely.
The threatening clouds behaved themselves and a number of brave members who
brought out their Camaros nicely motored the journey from our headquarters
dealership to Sutton and across the lake by Jackson's Point, Franklin Beach
and Willow Beach. We then headed south on Woodbine to Shoeless Joe's for a
wonderful lunch on the patio right beside our Camaros. Thanks to Livio for
setting everything up from the cruise route to lunch. Looking forward to the
3rd Annual President's cruise and I'm betting the President is going to be
cruising this one.
Wilson Niblett Tech Session->
On Saturday, March 29th, after the OCC general meeting, we took the
stairs from the boardroom down to the showroom and into the shop and joined
Wilson Niblett's Corvette Session. There were some hot road course Corvettes
there. In addition, The NCRS had a strong presence and conducted a full review
of Gord Wilson's 59. Brian Hay of Wilson Niblett was the host speaker and does he
ever know his Corvette history! Excitingly, Ron Fellows addressed everyone and signed
some autographs. This was a nice finish to our meeting.
Thanks to Peter Desmet for the following photos.
OCC at Performance World 2008->
For the last 20 years the OCC has participated in Performance World.
Have a look at the following photos of the cars that represented
our club this year and you'll see an awesome group of mint Camaros.
Five out of the six cars won awards - very impressive! We
always get our fair share of recognition wherever we go and this is
just another confirmation that our club has some really nice Camaros.
Gary Graham won the Mild Modified Camaro class and John Quindamo and
Steve Adams were runners-up. Also, Jason and Tania Ramsay won their
class - Pro Street Camaro. In addition, Van Quon was runner-up in Street
Machine to Cindy Hunter's 80 572 Berlinetta. Congratulations to all!
Many thanks to those who offered and brought their Camaros to
the International Centre to proudly stand for the club: Gary Graham,
Jason and Tania Ramsay, John Quindamo, Andy Johnson, Steve Adams and Van Quon.
CIAS 2008 Canadian International Auto Show->
On Saturday, February 16th, the OCC along with Toronto F-Body Motorsports
and Camaro Country F-Body were the guests of General Motors of Canada at the
Rogers Centre for an unveiling of the Cencept Hugger Orange Concept Convertible.
Even better, was the fact that Scott Settlemire was there to do the honours. This
is quite a perk that comes with membership in the OCC. Many thanks to George Saratlic,
Marketing and Events Manager of GM of Canada.
2008 OCC Winter Gathering->
Our 2008 Winter Gathering was held on Saturday, January 19th at the
Kilbride's in Goodwood. Almost 40 folks braved the below freezing temperatures
and made the trek to Goodwood from places as far away as Beamsville, Hamilton,
Orangeville, Orillia and Cameron. It was a great group and everyone had
a good time. There were a number of discussions about plans for the
upcoming season including new Camaro aquisitions, cruises and special Camaro
events. One thing that was certainly clear at this gathering is that
we are all looking forward to the beginning of Camaro season.
