OCC Summer BBQ
Saturday, August 15 was a great warm summer day and
Glenn Oldfield and Delena Hamilton hosted the OCC's Summer BBQ at their
spacious place in Orillia. All of the Camaros easily fit into their backyard,
how nice is that? Along with the great weather, there were many nice Camaros
and a wonderful dinner as well.
Norm and Linda Freund surprised us when they arrived with
their new Aqua Blue Metallic 2010 LT2 RS. This car is the perfect compliment
to their all original 69 LeMans Blue Z/28. Congratulations to them both.
A million thanks to Glenn and Delena for hosting a
wonderful BBQ at the perfect place.
Camaro Superfest 2009
The 18th Camaro Superfest was held over
the weekend of July 3 to 5 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The show
itself was on Saturday and Sunday at Riverside Park which
was a couple of kilometres from the host hotel, the Marriott at
Eagle Crest. On Friday, we had the opportunity to circle Michigan
International Speedway. This is a 2 mile speedway with 18 degree
banking through its turns. This was fun. The OCC stuck fairly
tightly together over the weekend. On Saturday evening 21 of us
(this includes Isabelle) invaded the local Lone Star for dinner.
We sat together at a long table and had a great time! Congratualtions
to Barry Hensel and his staff of the Eastern Michigan Camaro Club who
organized this successful show.
21th Annual Ontario Camaro Nationals
Another success for our 21st Annual show.
Excellent Camaro weather and 221 Camaros registered makes a
great 1 - 2 punch for a good show. Scott Settlemire was
in attendance, bringing us up-to-date with all of the goings on
with the 5th Gen and signing a whole bunch of inner fenders.
Hylton Jorssen brought in a convoy of six new 5th Gens. What an
amazing site to see. In addition, Brian Henderson and Fran Roberts
came all the way from near Pittsburgh with the 1st Yenko ever built
and an awesome 69 Cortez Silver COPO. These are huge money cars.
Our banquet was truly a banquet of great food and dessert.
Thanks to all who came and all who volunteered to make this a
memorable event. See you next year! Have a look at the
2009 Show page for more photos and more news about the show.
3rd Annual President's Cruise
After our last general meeting of the season
on May 30th, we left Wilson Niblett Chevrolet, our headquarters dealership,
for our 3rd Annual President's Cruise. This year our destination was
Midland, Ontario and Scully's Restaurant on the shores of Georgian Bay.
The weather was awesome and there were a few "tops down" taking
advantage of the beautiful sunshine. This was a great cruise and there were
a total of 19 Camaros making the run up some picturesque territory along Hwy 90
and County Roads 26, 28 and 29. Scully's served us on their patio and we enjoyed a
great meal basking in the rays that we waited all winter for. Many thanks go
to Heinz and Katie Mueller for putting the maps together, Ron Poplawski for running
the route beforehand not once but twice to make sure all was in order. In addition,
thanks to Norm Freund for helping Ron set things up at Scully's for the parking and
the invasion of their patio. We combined this cruise to show support for our long-time
sponsor SUNOCO. Ron and Heinz made arrangements with the owner of a large Sunoco station
in Thornton, where we made a pit stop to get our fix by re-fueling with Sunoco Ultra 94
which is the only fuel for our Camaros, isn't it? I think it can easily be said that we are
all looking forward to next year's 4th Annual President's Cruise already.
OCC at Performance World 2009
For the weekend of March 13 to 15,
a number of OCC members manned the club's 5-car display.
We drew much attention with the brand new Inferno
Orange SS2 Camaro which General Motors of Canada so
kindly loaned to us for the weekend. As per usual our
cars won awards. Cindy Hunter took 1st and all of the
Camaros in our display got runner-up even our new 2010
Camaro! Job well done! Hey, Ron, who is that in our new Camaro?
OCC Winter Gathering
Saturday, January 17th was the date of the
2009 OCC Winter Gathering and what a day it was. A terrible
snow began in late afternoon and continued until the next day.
Nonetheless, this did not deter the dedicated and hardy folks
who make up the OCC. Over 20 attended and came from places as
far away as Milton, Beamsville and Mississauga. It was a nice
group who got to catch up and share their Camaro plans for the
upcoming summer season. There were a number of wonderful dishes
which made up a great feast. And all the while we had on the
Barrett Jackson Auction which we all had constantly in focus.
Our next upcoming event is Performance World in March...so get
ready for this.
